In its busiest weekend to date Repton HC fielded 11 different teams with over 130 club members, from U12s to Adults, playing in competitive matches.
Our Ladies XI got the weekend off to a flying start with a 13-0 win against Derby Ladies 3s. Georgie Brownhill scored an impressive 7 goals and the Ladies continue their fantastic goal scoring run of wins in the Derbyshire Ladies League.
The Mens XI were fired up for a competitive match against a strong Derwent HC side and delivered a resounding 5-0 victory. Aaron Hibell secured his spot at the top of the East Mids Prem League of goal scorers with his hat-trick and Ben McClean and newcomer Harvey Doleman also added to the scoresheet.
On a frosty Sunday morning our U10s enjoyed a sports hall session before the pitches thawed in time for our U12s training and the first of six home matches. Our U14 Tier 1 girls were first up against visiting Lichfield HC. A 13-0 victory, including an impressive 5 goals for youngster Miranda Jackson, leaves the team top of their League on goal difference with only one group match left against Leicester HC on February 4th.
Next up were two U14 tier 2 matches with the girls away at Matlock and the boys at home vs Belper. With lots of U12s playing up into these two teams the girls did well to secure a 1-0 victory and the boys battled hard against a strong Belper team, losing 1-7, but growing in confidence throughout the match with 10 year old GK Josh Parish putting in a man of the match performance!
Our U16 girls travelled to Leicester HC for their second group fixture and in a fine team performance won 3-0 with goals from Georgia Brown, Liv Hackney and Charley Archer. They have one more group game vs Lichfield HC on 4th February and a victory will secure them a place at the Regional finals.
The U16 Tier 1 boys faced Belper at home and with a squad of only 11 players (thank you to Will Orpin for his last minute dash to the pitches!) showed huge commitment and stamina to win 6-2 with goals for Billy Collins, Zach Brough, Matt Newstead and Xav Teyletche. This victory puts the team back on track for Regional qualification with important matches left in the group stages against Loughborough (February 4th) and Chesterfield (February 18th).
Travelling Triton team gave our U16 Tier 2 girls a great match and once again the girls showed huge fighting spirit, with no subs on the bench, and every one of them working hard to earn a 4-2 victory.
The U14 Tier 1 boys made the trip down the M1 to face a strong Rugby & East Warwickshire side. With 25 minutes to go the scoreline was 3-4 and the boys had put in a great performance so should not be too disappointed by the resultant 4-9 final score. The team have one last group game on February 18th vs Sutton Coldfield and with lots of training sessions and practise matches ahead will look to gain a victory at home to improve their standing in the group.
As darkness descended the junior matches continued under the floodlights with the U16 Tier 2 boys facing Ashby and U18 boys against Doncaster HC. A young U16 side enjoyed a great match against Ashby with end to end play and and both sides taking their chances to score. The final score of 3-4 was testament to this with a brace for Will Ingham and one for Ethan Berlusconi and a fine performance from all the boys. Our U18 boys played in a highly charged Round 2 match vs Doncaster and, with a large crowd of spectators, they put in a brave team performance playing with intensity and determination throughout. Despite goals from Marcus Tarrant and Will Waldock, Doncaster proved too strong and ran out eventual 3-2 winners in an end to end match which had the crowd engaged throughout. We wish the Doncaster boys every success as they go on to the later rounds of the U18 boys competition.
Once again, no Repton HC club day could run so smoothly without the huge efforts of all the coaches, managers and volunteers so a massive thank you to everybody that helped this weekend. As ever, thank you to Kate Kaczmarczyk and Charlotte Clarke for their splendid efforts providing match teas for over 150 players through the course of Sunday and the committee are so grateful to all the parents who bring baked goods along for the traditional Repton HC Bake Off !
