A fantastic weekend of club hockey!
Posted by Club Secretary on 5 February 2018
This weekend saw a fantastic weekend of club hockey with Mens and Ladies league games, home and away junior championship fixtures and an intra-club U14/16 boys tournament as well as a busy morning of U10s and U12s training.
On Saturday, our Ladies XI put on a convincing display and recorded an 8-0 win over second placed Staveley in the Derbyshire Ladies Division 1. We continue to dominate the league and have scored 162 and conceded 4 in our 16 matches played so far this season. Only two teams have scored against Repton, one of which was Staveley who scored 3 in the previous encounter. With the score at 3-0 at half time the match was in control but not over with the Staveley goal keeper making some fine reaction saves. Staveley were constantly looking for quick counters and probing throughout which were well dealt with by Repton player of the day, fullback Katie Squires and close contender goalkeeper, Katherine Carr. Hannah Davey scored 6 and Aimee Mayfield and Luli Marelli also got themselves on the score sheet. Hannah has recorded an impressive 26 goals in her 8 league appearances!
The Repton Mens XI had another busy double header weekend in the East Midlands Premier Division. On Saturday they entertained North Notts at home and ran out 5-0 winners, with all the goals coming in the first half. The game was competitive throughout with both sides having players occupying the top two spots of league leading goal scorers. Jonesy scored a hattrick and Tomas Landa bagged a brace, with the pick of the goals being the fifth, a strong run by league top goal scorer Aaron Hibell was firmly struck towards the goal which Jonesy on the charge deftly deflected around the oblivious keeper. Sunday was a tighter affair as Repton ran out eventual winners 6-2 against Leicester HC. The half time score was 2-1 to Repton but Leicester scored first in the second half to level the match. With the top of the table spot up for grabs the Repton XI changed gear and scored four unanswered goals with five different scorers. The win puts our Mens XI back at the top of the table after 14 games with another 6 to be played.
With a full schedule of championship matches on Sunday our junior teams all put in great performances against some strong opposition both home and away.
First up, were the U16 Tier 1 boys who faced Loughborough at home in their fourth pool match in the Tier 1 EH junior championship. The boys won 8-2 with goals for Billy, Xav, Owen and Ben and keep themselves in the frame to qualify for the Regionals if they can continue their winning form away at Chesterfield HC on 18th February.
The Tier 1 U16 Girls travelled to Lichfield for their final pool game and with a 4-2 victory have secured themselves a place in the Regional Finals on 11th March.
The U14 Tier 1 and Tier 2 girls were both in action this Sunday with the T1 girls away at Leicester HC and the T2 girls away at Alderley Edge. The T2 team was made up of U12 and U14 girls and they all showed their commitment and talent against an older, more experienced squad as they worked hard to come back from a 0-3 first half scoreline to a final score of 1-4 at full time. The T1 U14 girls secured a 6-0 victory in their last pool fixture against Leicester, leaving them top of their pool with 17 goals for and only 1 goal against over their championship campaign to date. The girls will continue to prepare with training and friendly fixtures as they head to the Regional Finals on Sunday March 25th looking to repeat last season's success and gain a place at the National Finals in May.
Our U18 girls faced Beeston at home in the second round of the Plate competition. In a highly competitive, entertaining match watched by a large crowd the girls put on a fine display of fast paced hockey and were rewarded for their efforts with a 6-2 win against last year's National Champions. The girls now move on to the last 16 of the competition to be played on 18th February, details to follow.
As our U18 girls were battling hard on the water based astro, Cleggy, Rosario and Lulli ran an intra-club friendly 7-aside U14s/16s boys tournament (with guest U12 GK Josh Parish!) with over 30 boys coming down to play, despite the freezing temperatures! Thank you to guest umpire Jamie Fraser for helping out and to all the boys for their enthusiasm and energy on the pitch.

Such a succesful weekend of club hockey is only achieved through all the time and energy given by our committee and volunteers, many of whom travelled far and wide to support the teams and give all club members the opportunity for match play. Thanks to Adrian, Abby, Catriona, John, Jemma and Jonathan for their support and management of the junior teams and to all the coaches and umpires for their time this weekend. So many of our supporters generously brought baked goods along and thanks to Kate, Charlotte and Rachel for providing match teas as well as such a warm welcome to all of our visitors.
