Four from four for Repton HC as they close off a successful January!

Following the recent success of the junior indoors teams the Repton HC Mens and Ladies teams were not to be out done this weekend. The Mens 1st XI had a double header of East Midlands Premier league games due to pre-Christmas postponements. On Saturday they travelled to Goosedale to play Nottingham HC and three goals in the first ten minutes sealed the contest as Repton exploded into the game with incisive intensity. Martin Jones opened the scoring within the first five minutes and added his second shortly thereafter. The league top goal scorer, Aaron Hibell, added one to his overall tally meaning that Repton were very much in control at the break. Tomas Landa added another goal for Repton early in the second half before Nottingham's persistence was rewarded with a late consolation goal to complete the 4-1 scoreline.

On Sunday the men travelled to mid table Melton Mowbray for another league game. Melton had recorded some good league wins and Repton approached the game knowing that they needed to keep the pressure on current league leaders Nottingham Trent University. Repton started strongly again with a brace from Martin Jones and a Tomas Landa goal after great work from Dom Bennett, giving Repton a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. By half time Martin had added another and Aaron got on the score sheet to give Repton a 5-0 lead.  Martin, Aaron and Tomas all scored again in the second half with Melton getting a consolation to leave the final score at 8-1.

The Repton Ladies 1st XI entertained Burton 2s on Saturday. Burton 2s are third in the table and the previous week had recorded a good win against Staveley who are second behind Repton in the Derbyshire Ladies Division 1.   Burton were much stronger and more organised that in the previous encounter and played a style of hockey that threatened the Repton goal with the often under used excellent goalie, Sammy , unusually called into action on several occasions keeping a clean sheet.  The pace and skill of the young Repton side was too much resulting in an 8-0 win for Repton.  Pleasing for the home side was the hattrick for 13 year old Miranda on her second league appearance. Ann added one to her overall tally continuing an impressive run of scoring at least one goal in each of her 13 league appearances so far this season and also encouraging was the performance of Rosario Villagra who scored on her debut!

Ladies XI

On Sunday our Ladies XI hosted Alderley Edge 2s in the England Hockey Tier 3  Championship knock-out cup.  Captain Hannah bagged a hat-trick with some trademark direct and forceful hockey in a competitive match. Repton were generally in control with strong midfield of Hannah, Emilia, Rosario and Lulli providing too much pace and skill for the opposition. We fielded a young backline with Scout and Izzy both getting nomination for player of the day with Izzy, who was building on a strong performance in the league on the previous day, taking the accolade. This victory sees our Ladies XI through to the Quarter Finals of the T3 Championship against Formby HC away on the 11th February.

Martin Jones, Repton HC Head Coach rounded up the weekend  “I am really pleased with the individual and collective performances this weekend.  The results are just reward for the efforts of a large group of players and staff and we hope to make further improvements in the coming weeks."
