Friday Night Lights to get the weekend rolling!

On a chilly Friday evening a large crowd gathered to watch the current National reigning champions, Beeston U18 Girls, take on our Stratstone BMW U18 Girls in a friendly warm up fixture under the Repton floodlights. Played in great spirits the first half was an end to end affair with 1 goal a piece at half time. As tired legs set in Repton HC shifted the momentum in the second half with some fantastic linking play and superb finishing to run out 6-2 winners against a talented Beeston side. Thanks to both Managers for organising such a worthwhile fixture - a real testament to the strength of Midlands Hockey and hopefully just the beginning  of many more competitive matches ahead for both clubs.

On Saturday the Bulls Head Mens XI travelled to Newark for their East Midland Premier league clash. Newark were without a league win but they made Repton HC work hard for their two-nil victory.  Repton scored either side of half time with Xavier Teyletche, the Repton man of the match and youngest player on the team, involved in both. Teyletche was involved in a 1-2 with Joe Fell, the Repton captain, creating space for Fell to round the Newark keeper for the first goal. The second involved fine interplay up the pitch by Teyletche and Marcus Tarrant before the latter struck a strong reverse stick shot low into the goal. These were their first league goals with Aaron Hibell, the league’s top scorer and consistent Repton contributor, having an unusual goal drought! Ex England and GB international Martin Jones, the teams most prolific forward, was rested and both of these players will have the chance to add to their league goal tally this coming weekend as the side entertain Derwent at home.

A 15 goal win for our Stratstone BMW Repton Ladies 1st XI vs Burton Ladies 3s leaves the team having scored 116 league goals in ten games so far this season.  In this match hat-tricks from the promising youngsters Aimee Mayfield (Repton player of the match),  Ann Johnson and Georgina Brownhill along with braces from the unrelated Ami and Alicia Turner were rounded off by goals from Sarah Belcher and Liv Hackney.  Burton defended well but the constant barrage of pace and skill from the young side made defending difficult.

Our U10s were once again invited to Lichfield HC for a friendly tournament on Sunday morning. Two young Repton teams, decked out in their new kit, had a fun morning playing matches in a great spirit against a number of other invited clubs. We look to inviting Lichfield HC back to Repton on 26th November to return their hospitality in our own U10s/12s tournament...details to follow!

Sunday afternoon saw Repton HC fielding both a boys and girls team against the visiting UK Lions. With Dan Darby coaching the boys and Russell Anderson the girls against competitive, young Lions' teams these were great training matches for all four squads. The boys took a while to get the better of a tenacious Lions side but, came out fighting in the second half to score 3 quick goals and the match ended up 5-3 to Repton HC. In a similar manner the girls improved through the course of their match with the 7-3 scoreline flattering Repton HC who battled hard against a talented, young Lions side.

A great afternoon for club hockey to round off another busy RHC weekend!
