Indoor Teams

All four junior teams qualified for the National Finals as Midlands Champions.  The Repton HC indoor performances, which have been impressive and their results unprecedented, are due to the preparation by the coaching team as well as the weeks of commitment from this group of players in training.  This builds on the success of last season when all teams qualified and the U18 Girls are reigning National Champions.

U16 Indoor

The U16 boys played in two pools with a cross over semi-final and final with the top two teams on the day progressing to the National Finals in January. Repton drew their first game against Belper 3-3 as it took a little while to find their form, but were grateful for a late equaliser from George Fletcher. Two more wins followed, helping the young side to top the group on goal difference ahead of Belper, Stourport and Barford Tigers before an emphatic semi-final win against North Staffs which confirmed their place in the National Finals. Meeting Belper again in the final allowed the boys to gauge their improvement over the day and with the help of a strong performance from Zack Brough, Repton emerged as 4-0 victors to secure the Midlands title. It was pleasing to see two Derbyshire teams in the final and points to a bright future for the county’s hockey.

The U16 girls featured in a round-robin format with the top two teams progressing to the Nationals Finals. Wins over all opponents, North Staffs, Belper, Telford, Beeston and Stourport placed them top and earned them the Midlands Champions title. Kat Haid was outstanding in the centre and Claudia Swain especially impressive in front of goal.

U18 Indoor

Repton U18 girls are current reigning National Indoor Champions and were keen to retain the title with 5 returning players from last season. Disappointingly, only three teams entered the U18 girls’ competition - Repton, Beeston and Stone - but less disappointing was the performance of the Repton girls. A 9-0 victory over Stone and a 9-3 defeat of Beeston saw them progress to the National Finals as Midlands Champions.

The U18 boys also played in a league format with the top two progressing to the National Finals. While this format does not provide the must win semi-final it does usually result in the best two teams progressing. Repton were crowned Midlands Champions with comfortable wins against Lichfield, North Staffs, Old Halesonians and Telford. Repton raised their tempo and intensity for the Beeston game and won 5-0 against a capable side. Goalkeepers, Tomalin and Nelson, rarely troubled in the outdoor format, did well in goal and both Xavier Teyletche and Stuart Kentwell were profilic in the other circle.
