A winning weekend!

Both the Mens and Ladies XI secured impressive victories this Saturday in their latest league fixtures. The Ladies XI met Matlock 2s at home and were 2-0 up at half time after a PC goal from Hannah and a fine backhand finish from Lulli. The girls continued to dominate in the second half with further goals for Hannah, Lulli and Georgie resulting in a final score line of 5-0.

Next up, the Mens' XI hosted Newark HC on Saturday afternoon and put in a classy display of hockey securing a 13-0 victory. Four goals each for Jonesy and Aaron leave them continuing to share the top spot in the League top goal scorers, two goals each for Felly and James Hackett and a wonder goal from Ben made for an entertaining match on a drizzly Saturday afternoon!

After regular U10s and U12s Sunday morning training all of our U14 boys were in action in the latest round of their Tier 1 and Tier 2 EH Championship matches.

U14Tier 1 boys

Our U14 T1 boys put on a really impressive display of hockey in their last pool match vs Sutton Coldfield with a 12-6 final scoreline reflecting the excitement of the game. There were four goals for Oscar and a hat-trick for George and this dominant performance by a yound squad shows how much the boys have developed over the past six months under coach Cleggy. More importantly, the boys were true sportsman on the pitch throughout and were complemented by the opposition coach after the match in an email to the club, "We have played some very physical sides this season and some matches have been disappointingly niggly or marred by some poor sportsmanship. However, I think the way your boys passed and moved today was exemplary (I would say the best we have played against) and their attitude throughout was spot on. They were a credit to your club." Well Done boys!

Our U16 boys also had a morning game away vs Chesterfield in their last pool match of the EH Championships. A big thank you to all the parents who made the effort to get the boys back early from their half term break to travel to the match and Congratulations to all the players for a fantastic 15-0 win! There were four goals for captain Xavier and a hattrick for Zach and again the opposition were complementary about the club tweeting " Some great skill from both sets of players. Big thank you to the Chesterfield and Repton parents for a great atmosphere and match played in the right spirit!".

u14Boys tier 2

No team reflected the spirit of the club more than our U14 Tier 2 boys in their match vs opponents Brooklands MU. With seven U12 players in the squad this was a huge step up for many of our younger players and they did not disappoint the spectators by putting in a gritty performance right to the end against strong opposition. Despite losing 2-7 the boys benefitted enormously from the 11-aside match experience and again credit must go to young U12 GK Josh who grew in confidence throughout the game as well as 10 year olds Charlie and Freddie who were fearless in front of some much larger opponents! There were some great passages of play and passing hockey which resulted in goals for Max Ewart White and Charlie Coleston Shields and thank you to all those players (and parents) for stepping in at the last minute to ensure we could field a squad despite it being half term.

The last match of the day was our Mixed XI Round 3 home fixture vs Lindum HC. With a large group of supporters watching this was a classy performance from our ambitious mixed team and a 10-0 victory sees them through to the next round on 4th March in their quest to reach the National Finals of the main Championship competition at Lee Valley in June!
