Match Report

Not for the first time in this competition we started brilliantly and found ourselves one goal ahead after less than a minute. Also, not for the first time in this competition, it was Martin Jones with the goal.

In many other ways the game resembled the West Bridgford fixture with Repton largely dominating possession throughout the first half but thanks to some excellent saves from the Bebington goalkeeper we struggled to forge a comfortable lead. Bebington, in fact, had a couple of decent chances prior to Emilia Kaczmarczyk and Chrissie Jowett’s first half goals.

It was agreed at half time that we had started to take the win for granted and that we were capable of a much better performance both when we had the ball and defensively. There were occasions in the second half when we did string a few passes together and forwards and midfield more regularly worked back to position themselves on the line to goal.

Of course, having the David Exley and Anna Stone partnership at fullback meant that Matt Proudlove in goal was rarely called into action.

There were five more Repton goals in the second half. Andrew Oxburgh with the most spectacular and interestingly a couple of rare penalty corner goals (it is perhaps no coincidence that we start scoring penalty corners when we remove the males from the routine and leave it to Hannah Davey and Emilia Kaczmarczyk). Chris Beastall also added a deserved late goal.

I think Bebington enjoyed their trip to Repton as they have asked for a friendly return match; although this request was made after an hour in the Bull’s Head eating pizza generously provided by our sponsor.           Cleggy
