U18 Girls are T2 National Champions!

The Stratstone BMW U18 girls travelled down to Lee Valley this weekend for their Tier 2 National Final in the EH Championships. In a thrilling match vs Team Bath Buccaneers the girls secured a 4-1 victory with the scoreline not reflecting the competitiveness of the game and the strength of the opposition. With plenty of chances for both sides the score was 0-0 for the first 25 minutes of the match until Emilia broke the deadlock with a fine PC goal followed shortly by some amazing skills by captain Hannah to weave it through the D past the keeper to make it 2-0. In the last minute of the first half Georgie scored to make it 3-0 giving the girls a comfortable margin going into half time.
Team Bath came out in the second half with an impressive attacking display and the whole squad had to work hard defensively with some fine saves from Kat needed to stop the opposition scoring. A lovely cross from Ruby gave Georgie the opportunity to slot home to make it 4-0 but credit to Team Bath they continued their attack and scored with only 5 minutes left on the clock. The girls all agreed this was by far their hardest test this season and congratulations to Team Bath on their well deserved Championship run and thank you for such a closely fought match.
The 2017/18 National victory is a testament to the commitment and hard work of the entire U18 Girls squad throughout the season and, led by captain Hannah Davey, they have all represented the club impeccably, both on and off the pitch. A huge thank you to all the players and to their parents for their support and congratulations to all those players who won a gold medal in what was their last ever junior hockey match.
Thank you to coach Mike for his enthusiasm and efforts throughout the season and to manager Adrian for his mammouth efforts throughout the season and in particular for the National Finals organising hotels, lifts, meals etc - there is a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure the team are all in the right place at the right time in the right kit (and are well fed!) so THANK YOU!
