Weekend round up....
Posted by Club Secretary on 27 November 2017
It was a quiet Saturday for our adult teams with a scheduled league rest weekend for our Mens XI and a postponement of our Ladies XI fixture against Buxton, due to the adverse weather forecast.
It was a busy club day on Sunday though with over 70 of our young U10s, U12s and U13s down on the pitches for a friendly tournament against visiting teams from Lichfield and Belper HC. In freezing temperatures, back to back 7-aside matches were played on 4 pitches throughout the morning with players enjoying hot chocolate and cakes in between games in an attempt to warm up! All of our players enjoyed competitive games played in a friendly spirit and it was a pleasure to welcome Lichfield and Belper to the club and hopefully will be the start of many more fixtures against local clubs for our juniors. Thanks to all the coaches and parents who braved the arctic conditions and a huge well done to all the players who had smiles on their faces throughout! No sooner had the astros cleared from our junior tournament then it was time for our Mixed XI to take to the pitch and start their campaign in the Mixed XI Tier 1 Championship for 2017/18. Having won last season's National Plate final at Lee Valley the team were excited for their first challenge in this season's campaign against a visiting side from Boots HC. The team did not disappoint with an 8-1 victory, in what was an excellent game of fast paced, passing hockey with the Repton HC team linking so well it looked like they had always played together (when actually this was the first time they had ever come together as a team!). Special mentions to wonder striker Andrew Oxburgh for his fantastic finishes, Simon Claris for his composure and strength throughout and newcomer Scout Butler who stepped up to the challenges of mixed hockey like a natural! Thanks to Boots HC for such a great match and wishing them all the best as they continue in Tier 2 of the competition. Our next round match will be on 21 January 2018 with further details to follow..
